I might just agree with that. The Twist is jaw dropping to me as well.

Dawn Chorus is next to Daydreaming as best Thom/RH since In Rainbows

Damn I gotta check the new one then
|
| |
just listened to dawn chorus and i gotta be honest i don't get it
absolutely nothing happens for 5+ minutes?
|
| |
read the lyrics bruv
|
| |
Yeah at the risk of overexplaining it wouldn’t really work with a crescendo
|
| |
Ok :]

Well, there IS a crescendo, but a subtle one.
Not sure if I prefer it to the best tracks on KOL or MSP. There isn't much competition on his solo works though. Maybe this one's title track, I really dig that one's rhythms.

Think people are underestimating the last three tunes due to album fatigue - try them in isolation, they’re real good
|
| |
The closer is still a proper snoozer for me, but Impossible Knots is growing
|
| |
Dawn Chorus is one of Thom’s best songs and the easy highlight
|
| |
yeah Runwayaway is kind of a dodgy Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors to me idk
Impossible Knots is undoubtedly one of the best, The Axe is growing but still feels overlong
|
| |
Don’t like The Axe, pretty meh track

Impossible Knots is the weakest of the last three songs for me but okay - think I'm enjoying this one in a peculiar way :P
'yeah Runwayaway is kind of a dodgy Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors to me idk'
it's way more songful and appealing than bleedin Pulk/Pull, it's more like a follow up to the GOAT 'A Wolf at the Door'
|
| |
I like Twist the most. It's always a front-to-back listen for me though.

It's one I've had to listen to tracks out of order on follow up listens a bit to get out of it blurring on occasion but as I'm getting to know all the tunes better I think it'll be a front-to-back winner for me too
first track might be the weakest strangely
|
| |
Think we're listening to different tracks when it comes to Runwayaway, Doof
|
| |
yeah the only thing that song has in common with A Wolf at the Door is that Thom Yorke is on both lmao

Album Rating: 3.5
gives me the same vibe as a closer, obvs it's an electronic Yorke solo and not Radiohead so...

Album Rating: 3.5
just the way it drops and builds with the low classical instrumentation with the creepy intense vocals...it's his nastiest closer since Wolf no doubt - just like Wolf it has some light, almost airy, melodic passages but overall the song is dark as hell. The lightness is a faint, in the context it leaves you a bit queasy.
listening again and it's quite easily my favourite on this, yeah
