big bruh moment tbh but it's always good to rep early DM so there's that
still think that side A here is gold though, Lie to Me and Stories of Old especially, plus Blasphemous Rumours will never leave my top 10 DM

dunno it feels less creative than that one to me

It has Pipeline so I can respect that
You ever checked A Broken Frame? Stuff like Shouldn't Have Done That and Monument are quite unique too
|
| |
Broken Frame has some great tracks but overall it's one of my least favourites. Speak and Spell is crazy underrated though imo

Visit on the remastered 2020 (Box Set, good sound reprod). "People Are People", still a goat jam, even after nearly 40 years, nice. Perfect mid 80s pop electro little masterpiece song. Good album 2.75/5
-->Next, 4 amazing DM LP in a sweet little line, nice jam ahead, fuck yeah!

this is a damn-near perfect record, often overlooked in their catalog, and for most bands - particularly ones from around this period - it'd be their best
with DM it doesn't even crack my top 5

still tho - Lie to Me, Blasphemous Rumors, STORIES OF OLD (overlooked track on an overlooked album, but at least they did that updated version not too long ago to remind the world/fanbase) pretty much top tier DM songs

Stories of Old is absolutely my favorite on here

it's 100% my sound but one of the songs loses me
"it doesn't matter" and the closer are SO gorgeous
there's also a cool cut on the b-side of People Are People called "In Your Memory", maybe that's on some releases of this too? that one rules

"it's 100% my sound but one of the songs loses me"
Is it Somebody? Haha that's pretty common. I don't dislike it but it grinds to a halt the faultless streak of all the songs before it.
Also is it me or does Lie to Me have a subtle housey quality to it?
|
| |
yeah, Somebody is weird in the middle of this, everything kinda has to reset after it. and some of the lyrics in it really don't work for me, though i know there's a wide streak of sarcasm running through 'em
but I am seriously starting to think Blasphemous Rumours is one of their best songs, like up there with Never Let Me Down n stuff

certainly is, lol
I went through a phase of jamming this A LOT
...and Depeche in general actually. Maybe that time is no more

spent the winter absolutely rinsing their 86-97 run but ive prob only jammed this like 3-4 times. it rules tho hell of a band

im currently in that phase, basically listening to nothing else. "black celebration" and "music for the masses" clicked pretty hard for me. now i'm checking their other stuff like this, 101, and some of the post-violator material. m/

hell yea love to see it
post ultra id probably only check playing the angel and memento mori. they fell off pretty hard for a while and put out a lot of bland stuff in the 00s/10s, but that kinda makes memento mori all the more impressive

ive heard ghosts again and its rly good. seems like lots of people think alan wilder was the secret sauce that made them so good and they fell off because he left, not sure how true that is but i'll probably end up checking all of their stuff eventually
