I completely agree, I remember listening to Celestial Effigy before the album got out, I was like, oh this album sounds promising, but turned out to be a huge disappointment.
I like some bits on the other tracks like you said, but I also really enjoy the acoustic tracks.

''
But for real how many times did you guys really listen to it''
Probably around 20-25 times, in full that is. I picked the acoustic tracks out and jammed those the most, I think.

10 or so when I wrote the review, closer to 40-50 now. Astral Dialogue rules and Celestial Effigy is good but my god does the rest bore me to tears. My opinion hasn't changed. Musk Ox's instrumentals are nice as well.

so you've listened something you don't like 50 times?
damn

Damn. When I first heard it I was kind of on the fence about it but it grew and grew and the songs sounded so powerful and took a new shape live ( I know you disagree there Crysis). Anyway, I wrote a whole review about it so I won't repeat my whole opinion on the album here haha
Did you guys hear the 7inch that was released along with this with an additional acoustic track? Got a vinyl rip of it here. I actually like it better than the 3 on the album

All part of really enjoying music/writing about music. 50 times really isn't that much considering I have many hundreds of listens for each of their first three albums. Plus I love Agalloch and know that some of their stuff can be dense and take a while to "click" so I tend to give their records more chances than they may deserve. I also listen to Marrow on a fairly regular basis still, as there are individual moments which I really do find worthwhile. It took me years before I finally realized that The Mantle was as good as it was, then one day I just sat back and realized "damn".

I'll check that track, thanks for the link. And yes, their live show was a massive, utter disappointment and if anything made me dislike Serpent more.

I was sarcastic Keyblade
Yeah anyway I jammed the Serpent just three times. I should probably listen to it more now that the weather
calls for some Agalloch instead of this.
Are they bad live? I've never seen them, but I guess they would need a perfect sound to be good live?
wow dude I don't even know if I listened 50 times to my favourite disc

show I saw them at

if this amateur recording actually sounds decent you can imagine that the show itself was even better

When I saw them the opener Obsidian Tongue was far and away the best act.

Musk Ox and Jex Thoth opened for us. Musk Ox was beautiful, Jex Thoth was boring as fuck

Yeah I thought Jex Thoth sucked but then again I'm not into the whole stoner metal thing. Would have killed to see Musk Ox though.
