So now that I've given their first 4 albums a listen, I actually prefer the last 2 over the first 2...

Ain't it strange that at least 6 perfectly crafted and produced songs on this album couldn't convince critic reviewers it's an overall decent let alone pretty good album?
There are couple of fillers though, but just because it's less "magical" in essence than its predecessors doesn't mean it's less good. For me, way better than their third offering "To The Faithful Departed" and slightly better than "Wake Up And Smell The Coffee".

Essential Tracks: Animal Instinct, Loud And Clear, Promises, Just My Imagination, Dying In The Sun

The first 6 tracks on the album are the best thing the band has ever written.
"Saving Grace", "Delilah" and "Dying the Sun" all great tracks too.
"Copycat" and "Desperate Andy" might be my least favorites but I still enjoy them.

I remember listening to this once because my mom had it in her car for years and the one song I listened to off it, can't remember which, was so laughably bad

Your mother is cool. You? not so much ;)
Nice dig, though.

I mean, you aren't wrong lmao
I'll have to give it another full listen before I judge so harshly, I do love the first two cranberry albums. Now I need to know what song I was talking about..

Yeah I am curious too. I mean, there are indeed stinkers in this album. My bet is "Desperate Andy".

I took a trip over to Ireland within the year after Dolores' passing, her legacy over there is legit

Second best album from 1 of 30 best bands ever, criminally underrated by Mass Media.
