saw these guys last week on a whim and it was one of the coolest shows ive been to. they can all play their instruments like mad and they had a touring vocalist who did a lot more high screams than the dude on record. was v cool

They fun yeah

Their touring vocalist isn’t their actual vocalist? That’s, uh, weird but cool!
|
| |
just for this stint it seemed--might have been a health issue, they didnt say. in my cursory research I found out that the actual vocalist voiced a few characters in Baldur's Gate 3! pretty neat

Why are not more people talking about this. This combines high technicality with beautiful melodies and it has a lot of soul too. Because of the whole Flamenco influence this is more of a summer album for me, in the winter it doesn't really work for me

some of the melodies are nice, yeah
overall this just ain't that memorable, cool for a blast through and then nothing much sticks. Ultimately, I prefer their sound on the previous album as it felt like there was a bit more bite and despite all the technicality, it wasn't as homogenous

Yeah this one probably has better individual moments but Dasein is more solid as a whole imo. Haven't listened to this one much at all tbh

Listened to the closing track the other day for the first time in awhile and it is still one hell of a ride

I disagree, there are so many memorable moments on here imo

The only recent album that might rival the tech in this is Desolate by Ophidian I, and that album is also godly

Interesting, never heard of that one. Might have to check

Ophidian I was pretty good to my ears but was a lot more "straightforward" than this in my opinion. This really sprawls out and almost seems like a jam band playing tech death.
|
| |
Yeah Ophidian I is definitely more straightforward structure and melody wise. You could argue they are tech death/melo death.
FF is way more progressive in comparison. I only compare the two bands as they are both technically very flashy, plus I was listening to Ophidian I yesterday haha

That's one way to say incoherent wank for sure

I've heard wank and I've heard this album, they are not the same. Sure it's flashy but it's also well put together.

idk if i'd call it wank either but 70 min of excessive self-indulgence is exhausting. at a tight 30ish min this would be great

totally agree but this feels like a career magnum opus so I indulge
|
| |
Agreed, I would turn off wank after a few minutes and I'm typically not a fan of albums over 1 hour long but it sounds way more thought out here.
