Power on aside though I like a lot of the lyrics on here, it's all just straight forward and honest and that's how he has always been. Basically just pop lyrics.

@Freddie I get you there are certain types of lyrics that make me feel that way as well however the style of music they accompany can make all the difference. Like whiney saddboi lyrics in hip hop are AIDS but if it's in some scramz shit it isnt as cringe for instance

Lyrics are pretty bland yeah but same could be said for most of his stuff?
Could be said about most music tbh. Exactly why I’ve also never been one to care about lyrics unless they’re offensively terrible.
|
| |
The fact that this feels like a pop album to me makes a lot of the lyrics seem appropriate
|
| |
I'm gonna stop hating and give this another shot soon, hope it grows

Hope you find more to enjoy!

agree that this is a tad hit-or-miss, but I have a different idea of where the misses are...basically all the tracks with featured guests lol

I agree with pots that the best three songs on this album are "i'll come too," "mile high," and "where's the catch?" : )

The Pitchfork review is spot on tbh
Picked out the best and worst tracks in line with my thinking, picked out the goofiest moments, picked out the overall mannered air and the whiff of stagnation
Bravo on that one

Mannered air and whiff of stagnation would be better suited for colour

I think they meant mannered in so much as if the album is an intended party then James can't help but take the role of most awkward guest
Stagnant in that he still can't 'let it all go' and totally embrace something new
Anyway, I like half of this album quite a lot now
