jammed some favs on here last night and was thinking the exact same thing.
i honestly think this is one of my fave produced metal albums ever. feel like a lot of stuff that goes this heavy/angry these days has a bit too much polish and sounds kinda compressed (knocked loose comes to mind, tho i still quite like their stuff).
this album on the other hand strikes a balance where it sounds really really good and has a lot of clarity but also completely unpolished and primal. corey's vocals are ear-piercingly clear but don't sound super layered or reverby, the guitars sound disgusting and the performances feel very human, the bass is super audible and grimy, joey is completely unhinged... and overall the band feels tight but are clearly not tied to a click track, speeding up and slowing down naturally based on the mood of the songs.

I went through a phase where this was too angsty for me in high school/college when I was a pompous cunt and was super into prog metal/prog rock, but now that I'm not a pretentious dork anymore and have some grey in my beard, muscle mass and apparently larger balls, I realize that my middle school self was right and that this album is a fucking stone cold classic banger
The energy here is nearly unmatched, holy shit this is angry
