She couldn’t have picked 3 cover songs that were more made for me if she tried. So good.

Yes, those 3 new covers are all terrific. I looove the Lucinda Williams one, which is just a spectacular song in and of itself

Yeah I love that song and this album. My personal favorite will always be Lilacs, though.

Two years after this came out, I still listen regularly. It's growing up to be a classic.

Heads up that she has a new band with Jess Williamson (Plains) and is releasing an album in a couple weeks that looks to be a very similar style to this.

Amazing album, especially the last three songs. Ruby Falls oof.

I’m planning to give it some time since I’m seeing them live in a couple weeks but I mostly agree with you on my first listen to it. That said I didn’t super love this one either, and a lot of it feels like a lighter version of this. Frankly that’s why I often struggle with collabs/supergroups especially for singer/songwriter type folks - it often ends up feeling like watered down versions of their other work.

Yeah BOCC is another good example. Maybe a hot take but I never got much out of Highwomen either. I think the only collab album I can think of that ranks as my favorite work of all constituent members is Calexico and Iron & Wine’s In the Reins EP.

BOCC and Bonny are so boring but Highwomen are incredible
