damn i cant make any sort of judgment based on your ratings. dude if youre a serious music fan (which im sure you are) just pick a random one you feel drawn to, i know there's at least one with cool cover art but a comparatively low rating you must have your eye on... or maybe you'd wanna just go in order, idk.
see id heard a handful of zappa records and moderately to severely dug them when i was younger but i was more into the sci-fi/fantasy anglo-saxon style of prog, more mozart than varese... in 2014 a friend played one size fits all at the right place, right time and from that point on i was obsessed, looking up live vids and interviews and bootlegs and everything
ive never been TOO into the early mothers except as historical document and production but around 68/69 is when zappa turned into a guitar master. what are you more into? the instrumental stuff, the lyrics, etc? virtually every zappa fan has a different top 5

see its infectious dude, with me it was like i might find a song a bit too goofy or annoying but keep coming back to a certain section and playing it over and over then eventually getting into the entire thing. with apostrophe theres just such a wall of sound

yeah zoot allures is like, the closest he got to a straight up hard rock record, the songwriting is nuts and that was one of the first ones i really got into cause of shit like wonderful wino, black napkins, gas station

Zoot Allures rules
tbh if you like Zoot Allures AND Apostrophe... you'll probably like One Size Fits All
but yeah Mothers of Invention might be "Zappa in a band", but he was such a control freak that it's really not too different from solo Zappa, so I kinda forget to preface which albums are under which most of the time cuz it hardly matters

@Colton: If you love Wind Up Workin' in a Gas Station I might forgive you for your bad indie opinions tbh
