LOOK AT US PLAY AWESOME DETH METUL yeah the scourge of internet reviewers, referencing the real word in internet speak. no one thinks, acts or talks like that in real life, and its just a sloppy and cheap way to make a point. i stopped reading after that, it shot your credibility to sh!t.

the "fathomlessly" part makes no sense imo.

It makes sense if you think about it for about two seconds...if that...actually it makes sense pretty much immediately...

I didn't neg this review because he has a differet opinion. I did because he wrote things like what Pete pointed out, didn't even mention the change of style from the previous releases, doesn't mention Katatonia's guitar tech Sodomizer joining the group and the abcense of founding member Dan Swano for the first time on a full-length. Mike's vocal style is much more to the point on the release and is more in the background compared to Unblessing the Purity which wasn't brought up. Saying things like "every song sounds the same" it's fucking death metal! This Message Edited On 10.11.08

To bad none of that stuff matters in the context of reviewing a specific album really...all that really matters is what the album itself sounds like...I've listened to their old releases and I don't really feel like the mentioning of those things would give anybody an idea of what this album was like...This Message Edited On 10.11.08

I think all those points should have been brought up much more then talking about axes drumming on Watershed, how irrelevant is that.

Yeah those two sentences just took up way to much space and really made the review just a terrible read...

In the introduction you don't even mention the main member of the band isn't there anymore. hahah Don't even mention there is no groove left in this band. Don't mention a single thing about the songs themselves that he dislikes or likes. Yeah what a great review haha This Message Edited On 10.11.08

Mikael Akerfeldt is the Bono of death metal. Hes got an impressive resume, but he is such an arrogant douche.

you're an arrogant douche for saying that, anyone can tell he's sarcastic as hell all the time

Dude Akerfeldt is not arrogant...he just has an insanely sarcastic personality as far as I can tell but I've never gotten an "arrogant douche" vibe from him...
Man this thread stopped being productive 7 pages ago...

yeah man because reviews have meant to emulate exactly how we talk and act in real life

This was not meant to be an in-depth review. Lots of things were omitted for a reason. If I wrote a 2000 word analysis of a boring death metal album, nobody would read it. Most of the things you mention have absolutly no relevance or bearing to this album, and there's no point in talking about other releases because you can simply look up reviews for them. Nobody gives a shit about a guitar tech joining the group, and Swano's absence is already implied when I say Akerfeldt is back. You're just looking for excuses.

I couldn't disagree with you more on this. I just think that all those things would have made the review a lot better. I guess I'll just shut up now because you are never going to see where I'm coming from but at least I got my point across as to why I don't like this review.
|
| |
why don't you write a review?
You've only been complaining about his review this whole time, why don't you write yours?

I still don't think you validated your point, but whatever. If you've ever read any of my reviews before you'd know that I take criticisms very well, as long as they're not made so arrogantly, which is why I pursued this. Keep that in mind before being a dickhead next time.
Spat: I do use 'you' quite a bit in reviews, I guess I could stop doing that. I do concede that this is not my best review. I've been really trying to get my reviews more concise, because a few months ago my reviews were filled with useless waffle, but i guess in this case condensing it lead to some vagueness. And I'll change that line. This Message Edited On 10.11.08

well I only use an 'I' if I feel that my point of view is relevant to the topic at hand, but I could just as easily avoid it. I used to write rather lengthy reviews to make sure my point got across, but that ended up in a lot of redundant statements. I probably just have to refine myself more. I'll keep this in mind for my next review, which I'm writing now!

I don't see anything wrong with the review. Maybe some parts sound like a kid writing it, but maybe it's his own style. If anyone has a problem, they should write their own review.
