OK here's an example that makes (a little) sense, partycore faves ETID are pretty damn big for the wider genre, even relative normies outside of obscure music forums like 'em, right? They're vox are decipherable and in English, plus they've been around for a fair old while now so have a decent reputation.
This debut record by a (previously) unestablished band has generated around 80%-85% of the ratings your average ETID release has (they vary a little, so the number will change dependant on the album).
Does no-one think that's bonkers? I guess having Ballou on production and the iconic Baroness dudes artwork probably helped.

Definitely probably, but the "fun blackcore" thing was kind of a novelty too.

obviously there's a lot of factors that go into it. I'd say other things that helped would be, being a lesser explored (at least in the wider more mainstream metal community) genre mash of black metal and classic rock/punk, and publications on metal websites and things, they really got a lot of support early on which helped catapult them quickly.
ETID have the dreaded "metalcore" tag which probably throws off some boomer metal dudes from checking them out
who really knows how music spreads and what will catch on these days, especially with the internet!

interesting to think about though :-]

Oh yeah, it's one of those things that's impossible to gauge accurately, just wondered if anyone had some theories. Like you say it's almost certainly a combination of factors, with luck playing a part as well.

Sounds reasonable dedex, plus of course the fact they're fairly accessible doesn't hurt. Some of these jams were pretty immediate to my ears anyway.

I will volunteer for that job because I already took the first step towards having the correct equipment (not that I can play it).
