>do you really blame John for being annoyed at people trying to assign bullshit meaning to lines that exist to be weird and nothing else
ofc not. but those lines are so compelling to begin with because they scan as intuitive and uncontrived (/they vibe). hearing them twisted into a self-aware metanarrative sung as ironic humour just sounds like poison by comparison. i can relate to his frustration easily enough, but that doesn't make Glass Onion any less cheap as an outlet for it. all the tropes of a bad sequel right there

Every comment on this thread is a bad sequel.

The tone of some of these lectures do make any talk of condescension quite ironic I must say.

dude was murdered by the same types of folks wanting to hold him accountable for random 20-something scribblings when the guy was on heroin, acid, pills

the paranoid me and yoko against the world thing in EVERYBODYS GOT SOMETHING TO HIDE is far more interesting than "its mean to criticize celebrity worship"
a glass onion would be something that appears layered but when you bite into it theres nothin there. you just cut your mouth up and end up lookin retarded

A little contempt for fans in the lyrics is healthy anyway
Zappa basically sprinkled that kind of thing into every one of his non-instrumental albums, let John Lennon do it here and there idk
If anything I kind of wish more big name artists were more willing to do biting commentary like that even if it was “poorly done” or “smug” or “not chill” or “cringe” or whatever people say to push down ideas
Crack eggs, make omelets, be a fool, unbutton your top button

lennon was sardonic, a smartass, witty, etc but he never displayed the type of contempt zappa specialized in
