yea, I wish we could just say that deftones was pivotal in the alt metal genre and leave it at that without comparing every alt metal act to deftones (loathe barely sound like deftones).
I second more loatheheaven.

Yeah like 1/3 of this album’s sound is shoegaze and apparently Deftones have a Monopoly on that genre and all that border it lol
Been revisiting this and considering bumping back up to a 5.0. The guitar writing, playing, and wall of sound production throughout is chefs kiss for me

my guy it’s not lazy to say they have some tracks that sound like Deftones. At some points it’s not even *just* influence. A Sad Cartoon, Is It Really You, and Two Way Mirror literally just sound like Deftones songs.
Which is fine because they’re really good songs.
But when I describe this band to other people I just say they’re a heavier Deftones. It’s disingenuous af to say that they “barely sound similar”.

See, I think that's fine if you're describing Loathe to someone getting into the band as a heavier Deftones to give them a reference point. I think what Tgreenz is talking about is the people (around these parts) who write them off as "just a heavier Deftones."
I've listened to Deftones many times, and I've listened to Loathe many times, and I just don't hear it. Deftones' style of heavy is nu metal while Loathe's is metalcore. Kadeem/Erik don't even sound like Chino to me (they're also just better singers). I hear the influence in the songs you mention, of course, but the alt metal/shoegaze influence is about the only crossover I think I could point to. They do so much more than just a "heavier Deftones" in my eyes.

Deftones goes for more groovier stuff where as Loathe is both more atmospheric and heavier. I love Loathe but I think basically just calling them a heavier Deftones is a pretty apt description most of the time.

there are a few Loathe choruses that sound close to Deftones, but other than that the comparison is overblown. loathe are totally their own thing

I would be all over a Loathe/Deftones collab song.

The Deftones influence won't dissipate, but the Loatheheaven one is something i really hope for

Loathe sounded muddy as hell in an arena setting, which was a shame. But damn they can put on a show!! Kinda wished they were switched with Twin Atlantic because the crowd needed warming up for these guys, seemed a weird vibe.

It's been 4 years and a whole ass month since this record came out. They cancelled multiple tours to work on it back in 2022 and we've heard and seen nothing since. Surely Sharptone can't keep stalling their progress?
