Wow, opinions on the album/band/discog are really all over the place here.
I really like Suburbia and TGG, haven't gotten into their later albums beyond a few track listens here and there, and wasn't totally sold by the singles for this one, but will try to give it a fair shake.

The wonder years continues their tradition of writing half-catchy choruses (and by that I mean the first half of the chorus is catchy and then they just give up)

'i'm growing out my hair cos who gives a shit' is the worst one-liner motif to hit the scene since 'she had billie eilish style'.
I am coming around a bit to a couple of the songs. Namely "Oldest Daughter" and "Old Friends Like Lost Teeth". Still their weakest record overall imo, even below SISTER CITIES. No single track here hits as hard as "The Ocean Grew Hands to Hold Me" or jams as effortlessly as "It Must Get Lonely".

idk the 'i'm growing out my hair cuz who gives a shit its looking hopeless' feels too relatable to me rn
though today it woke up particularly gorgeous cuz it was still wet when i went to bed and my pillow gave it some nice curls

Aight after listening to this twice a day since Friday, this is easily their best since TGG and 2nd best overall.
Whoever was saying the closer sucks is a fuckin' smoothbrain, that bridge rips.

I don't see a big difference in quality between the halves. the most cuttable songs are Lost It In the Lights and Paris of Nowhere but they're okay at worst
"Closer has already joined the ranks of 'Devil in My Bloodstream', 'Sell Out My Funeral' and 'Cigarettes and Saints' as the highest of the bands highs in terms of emotional gut punching."
weirdly I don't think this album has a single moment that's in that tier of gut punchy, it's just extremely consistent quality and a good bit of variety. just so happy to hear TWY bring their a-game again

also i’m sorry but the super low growly yelling of “OLD FRIENDS LIKE LOST TEEEETH” is genuinely hilarious and basically ruins the song for me
