there are several quasi-death metal bands that were around at this time (Death Strike, Poison,

Necrophagia, hell even Hellhammer to an extent) but this isn't really fully formed death metal yet.

its extremely important and kind of coined the term with the track "death metal", but i'd say death

metal really didn't really shed all it's thrash roots until 1986-87.

Agreed with the above statement. This is like your proto-death metal kind of like Hellhammer were proto-bm. I've read in alot of places that Death Strike were the first but who fucking cares, they're all still essential.
