I feel that hard; Annie by numbers is something I'd stay clear of. However, the more folk I listen to the more I'm convinced that the bones of these songs aren't that valuable in and of themselves and that it's chiefly all in the artist's execution - Kishi Bashi nails it

Exactly, thank you.
But my biggest problem with this is the tragic love stories. I'm an emotional fag, and I can't sing along to e.g. Angeline without getting sad. So that's annoying.

Besides Marigolds and Summer of 42, that's my favorite. It's such a misfit stylistically but I love it. Reminds me of old school Avett Brothers.

Definitely better than the last one, but just shy of a 3.5 for me
I think the opener or Summer of 42 is my favorite.

Analysis. Marigolds and A Song For You are 4.5 songs, Penny and Summer are 4 and then it's more or less all 3s.

Marigolds is my least favorite on here, kind of a bore to me. Song for You is pretty good though.

F. Delano is lowkey one of the best, tho
Annie is also amazing, i'd totally listen a full album on this style by K.

Yeah that is definitely a matter of taste.
I pray he abandons all these bluegrass/Americana/country tropes.
All his albums have obvious references to older genres, so for the next one I put my money on doom metal.

i think that was the main appeal of this album to me.
i don't see how you can hate country music and give this more than a 3, but woah, people are crazy uknow.

well i think this one, even if it's still in Kishi's particular brand of chamber-pop, has more of a grounded sound. Lots of guitars, banjos and mandolines, less sequencing and synths than his other records.
