I've had Threnody stuck in my head for the last couple of days, and I like how the last track shares qualities with it

Guess I'm going to have to jam this a number of times to get it. Saw them live a couple years ago and they sounded amazing then bought the CDs at their merch table but never got into them on the record...

Dat bass is delicious.

Seriously though, this is the best Atheist album for 20+ years.

I mean, I guess. I don't find it as fun as Augury's new album [yet]

Woohoo dynamics or whatever, but does anyone else find this album a bit too quiet relative to other music?

Yeah I have my volume set two notches from the max when I’m jamming this. Def quieter

Agreed

Also, evidently the bassist isn’t using a fretless bass. Idk if y’all thought he was too but it sure sounded like that to me.

Ok good to know. Quiet albums like that always kinda annoyed me.

That aside, this album cuts cock

I asked them on facebook after the first single (cus I thought it was) and Alex replied saying he wasn't using fretless :3

I thought it was the version I had that was super quiet. dERp

The previous two weren't too far off in that regard, either. In fact, metal albums should aspire to have this style of engineering and subsequently volume rather than the loud sound achieved through a lot of compression that most modern music has.

It’s always funny how the underground bands typically have better production than the big metal bands.

Like Metallica hasn’t had a well produced album in 20 years but shit made on a shoestring budget comparatively sound a lot better.
