I still haven't been able to get into Working for the Knife, now I have The Only Heartbreaker to not understand. I'm hoping the album makes things clearer. To be fair I loved the singles for this album (Geyser and Two Slow Dancers) but they were probably very easy to choose as two moments (openr and close) reflecting the start and end of a journey but not really the journey itself.

I've known about her for a long time. Would see her live shows coming up at venues in my city over the years. She's playing a show here pretty soon IIRC. Checked her early work back in the day (from this site actually), but it's just not my thing.

^ Is that really the only discourse the new one has had so far? This was a stacked week for sure but that’s a tad embarrassing. And a 3.1 average too, damn.

I’ve given it one listen so far and actually liked it a tad more than this, but it still did little to change my impression that she’s basically a singles artist (and I’m ok with that).

I'm in the middle on her but I do think (as I've said in this thread) she has a distinctive songwriting style. It's just that it depends too much on chromatic shit and light dissonance for me. But I do feel like with Puberty 2/Cowboy and some of the before stuff (haven't heard anything new) I could kinda know a Mitski song when I hear it which is worth something or other

just finished the new one and I don't know if I could distinguish it too much from other fem vocal synthpop for the most part - maybe? song writing just washes over me
