There is a specific sound that a woman brings when she does this type of vocal performance that a man doesn't bring. The male version of this has been heard ad nauseum, not so much for a chick. It may be cheap, but it does make this music sound "original", at least vocally. They do enough instrumentally for me to dig it... But yeah I agree this isn't groundbreaking in any way. Nor is it super impressive technically or anything.

that I can agree with. I always really liked her vocals but when the production is so good and she doesn't even know what note she's trying to hit it sticks out like a sore thumb

Pretty sure the strained cleans are intentional, she had very good control when I saw them last week.
