I have decided that this is a very interesting album, difficult to love, but easy to like / enjoy. A very confident enduring(?) 'great' as a minimum.

More consistently engaging than the industrial of Horse Rotovator (although that album on the whole is very good also) and certainly more striking overall than Musick to Play in the Dark (which if you at least ignore the falsity of the title, certainly has a 'vibe' I can appreciate).

it’s one of their lesser records unless you’re super into 808 state.

but it’s coil so their worst is better than most everything else.

Around the time this album was released, I saw Coil play a small bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was a great, intimate show. I really loved the band at the time. After the show, I checked out the merch table. They had t-shirts with a small Coil logo on the upper-left front side of the shirt. I asked the guys manning the table what I thought was a reasonable question, particularly given the exorbitant price of the shirts: "Is there anything on the back?" And they proceeded to ridicule me mercilessly. "Like what a giant skull?" "Or, or, a naked chick riding huge boner?" And they continued on like that between each other, laughing uproariously, even as I wandered away. That experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

I hate when the back of shirts have text on them, like who reads people’s backs???
