if you play the album skipping [drill sergeant], [JFK] and revolt it becomes wholly enjoyable

you'd also have to skip psycho, aftermath, and then stop listening before drones starts

Aftermath isn't that bad salad. I'd pick it over Mercy.

i mean psycho instrumentally isn't bad, considering it's basically just uprising but with a riff they've been using live for like 10 years thrown on top of it, but the fucking lyrics, man

Lyrics in general are the biggest problem with this. Dronesssss

bellamy has always been just sort of tolerable lyrically, but his writing completely shit the bed on bh&r and it's been nothing but a steady decline

So Muse are writing their own review titles now 'Muse drones' - well doh

What next - Muse Bores (album cover with some sort of futuristic mechanical digger on the front)

Muse Sucks (album cover with an army of photoshopped Henry hoovers ruling the planet)

The lyrics are bad in spurts but there's also sections where they're just typical, politically motivated Muse-ings (ha).

The bigger weakness is that they can't commit to themselves; they feel the need to write these flimsy pop tunes and string-laden suites that don't suit their abilities or the direction of the album at all.

I think the focus of the hate on "Psycho" is wrong. I know the lyrics are bad, but what gets me is that really generic riff being repeated for almost 05 minutes. It sounded good as a jam in the middle of "Stockholm" live and should've stayed as such.

Overall I'm really enjoying this record. I really like "The Globalist". But "Reapers" is definetely the best one on the record.

I was unsure if I should go to their concert here in Brazil this year, but this record is fun enough to pay the ticket price. Hopefully they'll play a lot of their classics.

So yea, this is by far their best effort since Black Holes.

Yep, corny line, but the hooks are here and god damn it, it feels good hearing Matt Bellamy shred on a record again.

Honestly, I have this sitting at a 3.2 but I thought I'd give them a bump after their last 2 abysmal records.

Mercy, Revolt, Psycho and them awful Interludes kill it too much to even think about bumping higher than a 3.

I think a 3.5 is the most I'm going to give this. There's too many flaws and shitty moments for me to bump this.

A shame, because when they get it right it's really good.
