BurnedBlack:

Well mathcore is an offshoot of metalcore. Maybe try listening to some older metalcore bands/albums?

Integrity- Those Who Fear Tomorrow
7 Angels 7 Plagues- Jhazmyne's Lullaby

I will refrain from making a large list, but you catch my drift. Also, maybe try some math rock, so you can learn to love/appreciate the shifting time signatures.

Hella- Hold Your Horse Is
Giraffes? Giraffes!- More Skin With Milk-Mouth

Honestly, I know you're probably right. I'm not used to listening to matchore/older metalcore/etc. I'll try some of those bands, thanks man

Edit: I realize that "Jhazmyne's Lullaby" came out after "We Came As Romans". It might be an important listen to you, because it does a good job of juxtaposing the more frantic and dissonant metalcore styles, with very convincing melodic segments.

climactic, I'd definitely call it matchore, it doesn't sound like any metalcore I've ever heard.

Bah! All these genres and subgenres and such...

It gets a little hectic if you get caught up in all the categorizing, but it's necessary on some levels.

Judging by your ratings you're just getting into music. Just give it time, there's tons of cool stuff around, even if others don't like it, fuck it.

Nah, believe me, I've been into music for a LONG time, but I've only been listening to metalcore for a couple years now.

I'm sure you guys think some of the bands I've rated (BMTH, TDWP, ABR, etc.) are all just terrible "scene" bands, but if you actually get into them, you'll find that they're all original and enjoyable in their own way.

And yes, even BMTH's new album is enjoyable, believe it or not =0

Nah, not really. They sound the same in the same way. I hate breakdowns the way those bands do them, which is like, 3 times in a song.

BurnedBlack, realize that those are two totally different brands of music that just happen to be both called metalcore.

Real metalcore = Integrity, Converge, Botch, Coalesce, Deadguy, etc.

If you haven't 5'd this yet, keep listening, you will eventually. It sounded like noise to me at first too and now I consider it among the best metal albums ever. Sometimes I put on Planet of Ice just hoping for even a hint of the greatness that is the guitar on this album. Oh and Botch shits on Converge.

I agree, do not stop listening to this album until you have 5'd it, no matter how long it takes just keep going
