Maybe it's just the way I heard it, but it definitely seemed pretty sad. Will spin this in full later, this band has really been surprising me with their consistency since finding them last week :p

On first listen I really really like this. 3.5 for me is a high score. I really like this but i'lll admit it's a bit disappointing. Some of the songs seem to drag a bit, and it just doesn't have that experimentation that white light/white heat does. I'm fine if an album doesn't experiment as much as their predeccesors, but this seems a little too imperfect to give a higher score. To me, a lot of White Light's imperfections were endearing because of the experimentaion.
Maybe my opinion will change though the last two tracks really ended it on a hell of a high note :p

Candy Says, Pale Blue Eyes, Jesus, I'm Set Free, Murder Mystery and After Hours were the ones that stuck out to me as top tier Velvet for me :D

this is kind of a frustrating listen. almost every song here could be a 5 under certain circumstances but they just arent. there were a few moments like that on Nico @ VU but that album was a little more intriguing and sometimes teh messiness aided to the unique enjoyment you got from the album. here everything is very clean and is supposed to sound very tight, but quite a few songs here could use a minute or a minute and a half taken off.
the run of pale blue eyes to i'm set free should be one of the best ever but i always get lost in a couple of the songs cause they drag on. the concepts are usually just not executed interestingly enough to warrant the extra minute or two. i know this album has shorter songs and what i just said is probably how many people feel about white light and nico, but those albums had a bit more thematic umph behind them to push the length.
so many close 5 outta 5 songs here. as it stands theres only like 3 though. i think the song that lost the most out of its length is What Goes on definitely cause that organ piece is brilliant but it gets old by the end.

This is not nearly as good as The Velvet Underground & Nico tbh. Candy Says, What Goes On, Pale Blue Eyes, Jesus and Beginning to See the Light are pretty much the only songs i come back for.
