Album Rating: 4.5
how a prog metal fan could give this a 2 rating is still one of sput's greatest mysteries to this day
|
| |
Album Rating: 2.0
haven't considered myself a prog metal fan in like half a decade honestly.

Album Rating: 3.0
i used to have this rated pretty low, but couldnt remember any of it, and then rejammed and was like "nah this band was cookin"
so its possible a rejam might help lol

This pretty well floored me immediately.
The last parts of Vice Wave are goddamn crushing.

rip flug. shed a tear
do think theyre pretty overrated round these parts ngl but theyre still a solid ol good ol time. think their skill as instrumentalists causes them to get way too free a pass for just looping the same thing for 4 bars then looping a different thing for 4 bars and so on and so on. that has kind of a low ceiling imo. i liked the new one more so we'll see how part 2 wraps it all up

Album Rating: 4.8 | Sound Off
i see where you're coming from, 5 years later i can detect more of the flaws of this album and my perspective has shifted accordingly. that being said, there's still something pretty appealing about their stream-of-consciousness jamming - as you said, it does get carried through on their skill as instrumentalists

If said thing beats ass, loop it to infinity

"the dumbest fucking shit about metal is they make a good riff for 3 seconds and then jump to something else instead of looping it" - some industrial guy (paraphrased)
album is perfect and depirro is still one of the only 2 guitarists worth anything

Album Rating: 2.0
definitely only 2 guitarists worth something in the world yeah
|

Album Rating: 5.0
won't put stipulations around it or act like it has to be that way
i don't want "guitarist who has perfected tone/texture/syncopation who knows how to flawlessly intertwine their notes with the bass and seamlessly transition from ethereal atmospherics to crushing never-filler riffs" to be a secret club
i'd love to hear a third or fourth even (could happen by 2035 never know)

He's a good guitarist when he isn't soiling the song with a dorktastic lead bit, sure
|
| |
Album Rating: 5.0
an album so seamless i don't even register any single part as a "lead bit" (i'm guessing that means solo?)
solos often suck because they run afoul of the song without working themselves in properly
that is very very very very very much not the case here
