People do tend to over exaggerate whether a band sounds like opeth or tool. But then sometimes you get stuff like Soen's Cognitive (tool) or just pieces that sound directly from another band's discography. Put on Venator for a couple minutes and tell me if you agree.

Yeah i've never really seen anything of theirs as being Opeth worship but too each their own. However, I do think people act like Be'lakor is more unique than they actually are because of just how same-y a lot of melodeath currently is (I love Be'lakor for the record).

Yeah I agree most certainly. There's a fair handful of bands who are perfecting what they can within their own sort of cubicle but nothing much in terms of experimentation. Of course I haven't scoured every piece of music ever so god know what interesting shit is out there haha

Sun's Delusion is still one of my favorite melodeath songs

Not complaining cos ripping off Opeth is the best thing any band can do.

it's only like 2 seconds but yeah, not minding either, but the feeling is completely different even though the chords progression is similar

I'm not even saying they're ripping them off...just that they're very clearly influenced by them even without looking at that riff

Only one listen into the new album, and it's exactly what I was hoping for. The kitschy double-tracked growls and screams are mostly gone, the drum sound is almost perfect (my two biggest gripes with this album), and it sounds much closer to Portal of I than this album in my view. The new bassist is exceptionally good as well.
