How do they blow exactly?

Honestly I feel there's no force whatsoever behind the "heavy" parts, the clean vox make me cringe, there's little in the way of atmosphere and though they seem to add some creativity in their sound, I find none of the ideas particularly interesting or all that well executed
I know I'm in the minority and everybody else seems to love this band, but every time I give them another try, I end up frustrated

There isn't a lot of atmosphere among the super sharp production, I'll give you that. Vox are great, I just don't know what the heck Xenoyr's thing with writing about "the children" is. Something about purity and tragedy, idk.

But as a whole cohesive record, Portal wins.

I find Portal way overstuffed and less cohesive, but with better moments (opening of Plague, middle of Icicles). This is a much smoother listen for me.

Be'lakor is pretty solid. Still laugh every time I put on Stone's Reach though. First few minutes are the most blatant opeth worship I've ever heard.
