Went to the Austin eclipse show they did today. The new songs sounded really great considering how chaotic and complex the production is. They really nailed the energy of them

Japanese bonus track - Broken Washing Machine. Lounge music!!! Quite thankful it didn't make the album to be honest...

I dug what I heard. I think I need to spend a bit more time with it, though.

@Wines: It's close. Could see it favorably drifting that way in the future. At this moment in time, here are my truths:
• Three of the four singles (ex: Gen-X Cops) ended up being my three favorite tracks from the album. While this doesn't necessarily sound or shouldn't be problematic, per se, there was a tangible negative impact of having listened to Classical, Capricorn, and Mary Boone about 70 times before the full album dropped, ultimately to find nothing else that was quite on that level. This is an inherent evil of the way digital releases are often slowly meted out single by single these days. A "me" problem, maybe, but a problem nonetheless.
• Mostly alone in the camp that doesn't think "Connect" is a top tier track here and, to me, feels like a massive comedown from three impeccable songs to start the album. Not that it's a bad song (it's not) but...idk...it sounds like it belongs on a different album, strangely enough.
• The Surfer is the album's weak point (imo) and is followed up by my least favorite (but still good) of the four singles, Gen-X Cops, which, again, creates a (very very minor) lull as we enter the back-half of the record.
• Hope is great. Really great. But "I Think Ur a Contra" has essentially ruined VW closers for me, b/c I don't think they'll ever come close to capturing that magic again tbh. That song very nearly brings me to tears.
• I do think Prep-School Gangsters is the most overlooked / underrated track on the album, though, and I think a lot of people (from what I've seen online) are missing the (imo very obvious) tongue-in-cheekiness of that song and its lyrics. Such is life.
Great album, though. We are so back, baby.

They're not the best with closers, I like Kids Don't Stand a Chance and I Think Ur a Contra, but I think Hope does it really well

Something about Vampire Weekend has always rubbed me the wrong way to the point that I have never given them a real fair shake. The have always felt kinda corny and lame.

I like them. Well, I wasn't so fussed on some of their last record, but generally, they spin a good tune. I like their lyrics.
