@MoM: Thanks, it means a lot to me! Southern Air is pretty much the perfect Yellowcard album, so I'm glad that's the one you checked out after Ocean Avenue. This isn't quite on the level of those two, but IMO it's on par with most their other excellent releases (Paper Walls, WYTTSY, L&S, s/t).
@Sunnyvale: Hmm, yeah I can see this being a tad underwhelming if the opener doesn't do anything for you, nor the t/t. The lyrics on the title track didn't bother me much, and I actually really like a few of the verses. The EP is definitely approachable, so hopefully it grows. Glad you're at least somewhat enjoying it in the meantime!

Oh and @pizza think I found the best song to represent their old drummer for you:

Seriously, if you think 'Three Minutes More' is good, check some of their work from 2012 and prior.
Oh and here's a drum solo.

Yellowcard is probably the worst live show (next to the Used) I've ever been to. It was so sterile and boring I wanted to die during the set. No idea why they are still pushing this, I mean Ocean Avenue is 20 years old...

I think it depends on when you saw them. I remember some of their earliest shows being pretty pitchy and at times shaky overall (honestly, this was the case with a ton of bands in the pop-punk scene). However they've been doing this for decades now and at this point they're a pretty well-oiled machine. They've improved a ton and I think they've sounded great live for a while now.

Sowing, you made me interested in Yellowcard in 2023. Congrats

lmao
Once this EP has run its course and/or you get bored of whatever new releases, I'd check either Ocean Avenue or Southern Air next (I'm assuming you've heard no YC based on your ratings).
I think Ocean Avenue might be the next logical step considering it's their widely known "classic" and also a lot of other metal heads seem to enjoy it for some reason (Willie being one).

I checked a few of their albums through the years starting in high school with Lights and Sounds. Everything else I heard was because a new Sowing review came out. I did check Ocean Avenue though. Time to finally dive in to their discography! On a side note I miss SeaAnenome

Yeah most people have heard Ocean Avenue whether they've wanted to or not haha. Southern Air is my personal favorite.

"What do you think of the Paper Walls comparison now that you've heard it?"
v late reply but I can definitely hear it at times! "Hiding in the Light" feels like it could fit on that album. the rest of it feels closer to Southern Air to me. I'd say the closer sounds like an Ocean Avenue-esque ballad tho.
kinda surprised how much the first track is growing on me.. not a big fan of Pierce the Veil lol. but when that song hits its stride it's pretty fantastic

That was definitely the song I was thinking of the most. In general, I guess I was hearing it in the percussion (which, despite no LPIII, feels very upbeat & prominent in the mixing), and the production values in general seem very...dense, for lack of a better word. Not saying that's a bad thing (because I really enjoy this and PW), just something I noticed.
And I definitely agree that there is a lot of Southern Air baked into this. "Childhood Eyes" strikes me as one such instance, especially with "I am the love you need" sounding very parallel to the "I loved you first, I love you still, I always will" refrain from 'Always Summer'.

@JohnZapp: Glad you're digging it, definitely feels like YC is back. I also love the artwork; possibly my favorite of theirs.
@pizza/bellovdd: Have either of you shared your track rankings yet? You both seem to like this a lot so I'd be interested in seeing how your ordering compares to my own.
@MoM: Agreed that they're great live. I've seen them a few times and was never disappointed.

The dashboard song is just not hitting with me to make this a 5. But I get why it's in there if they wanted a slower song

I generally prefer their uptempo stuff as well.
But as far as their slower songs go, "The Places We'll Go" is still up there for me. Nothing will touch "Ten" though, that one is just an emotional wrecking ball.
