I just didn't like the token "return to heavy" vibe for most of this album. Always thought their guitars in particular sounded weird. And I needed a bit more melody.

I remember back in the day trying to get into deathcore, this was one of the bands recommended, and finding the guitar tone on [id] (which I never ended up finishing) in particular to sound...off. like something had gone wrong in the studio and they chose to keep going anyway.

[id] is kinda ass, I only got on board with VoM at Matriarch, not even just because of the clean vocals, just the songwriting in general got so much tighter, perfect example is Synthwave, amazing stuff

to me it sounds like they had the drive knob too low on the cab and it sounds paper thin. at least they didn't pull a dimebag and scoop the mids so bad that it causes an ear-splitting headache. but for this brand of super "heavy" core their guitars stick out like a sore thumb to me.
