Yeah The Unrest is easily the best track here. Godforsaken is ok but I don't understand the hype there, maybe it needs more listens. This is a solid 2.5 for now.

The Rapids is my favorite along with Starless Paths and Godforsaken. Except for White Christ I actually like all the songs, even the somewhat middling The Witch Hunter.

Currently listening to this right now. I think Godforsaken is probably one of the best songs by the band. Cannot wait to see what else is on the album.

On first listen, I think this one of their best albums. Pretty much every song here is a highlight especially Godforsaken and Starless Paths. The only track I am a bit mixed on is White Christ but it still has an incredible solo.

settling on a 3. i think there are some really good songs on this but the concept/lyrical themes i just find kind of mundane and there's a few duds on here - basically all the pre-release singles.
i'm glad they saved the best for the album.

I don't mind the slight stylistic change into more doom/black territory, those elements are executed quite well. The melodeath on display is Insomnium on autopilot.

Really enjoying this right now, nice combination of melody and melancholy.

I don't think this will end up passing Winter's Gate as my favorite Insomnium album, but it is really good. Johanna Kurkela's voice is a nice added surprise too. She's been fantastic on everything I have heard from her.

I'm curious: People who rated this higher than Heart Like a Grave, why?

Because it’s way better. That’s as specific as I can be.

Ok, so I'm the minority here. White Christ rules! Love the leap from the Insomnium formula.

Also, the blackened edge on the album makes it a bit more interesting. Belzebubs was good, but a little too much.

It's not a bad song but I can't say I like it either. I think it would work better as a bonus track.

My Rotting Christ fanboyism may have some influence on my taste for it.

Nice rev Notrap. I agree with your insights. A few takes on this
No way is this better than HLAG
The sound of the drums is a bit stifled and could be punchier imo
Lilian is prob my pick as it’s the most HLAG-like
It’s good but not a huge fan of the mix. Doesn't sound as good as it could imo

Thanks.
I prefer it to HLAG, but not by much.

Another solid album by the band. Their output is quite impressive, not a bad album in their discography.

This grabbed my attention much more than HLAG did when it was released, will give this proper spins, sounds very Winter's Gate-adjacent which is a great thing
And holy shit, an Insomnium ballad, with GOOD clean singing? I've always wanted a ballad but thought their cleans were super cheesy (save for on WG), fucking nice stuff here man, always knew they had one in them
Biggest gripe here is the production though, at least on the spotify version, I can't hear shit
