I enjoyed this overall. The breakdowns are the weakest part of this band. Not sure if they do it for youtube views but the best parts of this album do not involve stopping the song and trying to drop the heaviest most brutal breakdown ever heard. This is where Shadow of Intent is still top of the genre, they are able to mix multiple styles of metal, and their albums flow seemlessly.

Love the review. The description of the "latter category" is perfect. I'm in that group too. It probably also accounts for most of those 22+ million dl's of To The Hellfire on Spotify. They definitely bring something unique to the table. Maybe it's how their songs are structured. It's still extreme metal@130bpm but there's a simplicity and repetition to some of the tracks that make them just a little more accessible. I'm sure somebody with an actual understanding of musical composition could explain it better.

Amen. Fortunately the controlled chaos is minimal but these breakdowns can become excessively grandiose. Cursed To Die, for example, has me waving the white flag at about 2:30 but there's still 15 seconds to go. It happens on a few tracks. Small complaints though because, overall, it's really an excellent album.

Only heard the first four tracks so far but gotta agree I was really digging welcome back o dreaming sleeper, but the outta place breakdowns ruined the flow. Into the earth and sun eater are banging tho. Vocals and solos are wild

Liking this more than the last one. When they do the more fantastical whimsical orchestrations I really dig it and they do that a lot on here. Not really understanding the idea that it's too repetitive.

I really want to like Lorna Shore more than I do but I'm struggling because of the drummer. Yes, he's fast, but he's too loud in the mix, I don't find any of his writing particularly creative, and with the exception of Soulless Existence, I feel he's CONSTANTlY overplaying / overcomplicating the drum work that the song actually needs. His relentless double kicks are often suffocating the far more interesting guitar work and orchestral elements. The wall of sound he produces is also, in my opinion, a big factor in why these guys get criticized for lack of variation / distinct songwriting from track to track.

I understand what the review is getting at with changing the drums too much would be less "deathcore", but I respectfully disagree. I'd point to a band like Archspire who have an incredibly technical, fast, and creative drummer as an example of how you can retain the speed and intensity of the music without creating the fatigue Durrzo alluded to.

“Having said that, I love this album and the similarities in the songs are almost entirely surface level. Plus "Soulless Existence" through "Wrath" are pretty different from the first four songs. It's almost like an album in three sections: The opener through "Cursed to Die", "Soulless Existence" through "Wrath", and then the Pain trilogy”. [2]

That's probably my favorite track. Pain Remains Trilogy is overrated, it's not much different from the rest of the album, barely at all really. The tracks blend into each other nicely.



The whole thing really is a shit ton of fun though.
