What sticks in my craw abt these guys and windmillcore more generally is the sense that they're the perfect Current Year rock band on paper but the songs themselves just aren't there. The parts don't connect in a satisfying way and I get no sense of who these men are or what they believe and feel about the world, it's all undirected chops and hypothetically exciting influencecombos and constantly settling for interestingness when there's nothing keeping them from greatness.

Yeah I don't like the name either but at this point it's probably futile to fight it

" I get no sense of who these men are or what they believe and feel about the world"
is this copypasta? do you need to know how they feel about the world to enjoy this? i'm so confused

Idk I like it when an artist has clearly put a lot of themselves into their art? It feels way too mean to outright accuse these lads of not doing so, but to me they sound anonymous- not generic, but like their personal internalities aren't relevant to whatever they're doing musically

The (actually mostly solid) p4k review for this made quite a nice point about the band's virtual insecurity over emotional depth or openness in their song that I thought nailed the "all head/zero heart" black midi discourse better than most
Regardless though, it's basically the same argument people have been having for decades over Mr Bungle, only at least Mike Patton had the decency to layer on some semblance of emotional earnestness where it counted

There are some great songs here

YES. We NEED to know every ounce of water they drink and every bathroom break they take.
This band is annoying FantanoCore anyway so there’s no need to know 😉

This might end up the most unexpected/unlikely Doof 5 of the year, it’s kinda an outrageous album it really is.
First five songs are faultless and the only reason I maybe don’t rate side B as high is I just haven’t listened to it as much yet

This definitely has enough in common with the Tiger Lillies school of Doof Revue that I could see it. Wouldn't be your worst 5 ;]
