"you won't be disappointed but you won't be super excited either"

Just what I look forward to in a prog rock album, an overwhelming sense of ennui

There should be something to love on here for any PT and prog fan, if you include the bonus tracks. Love in the Past Tense might be my fav tbh

“Fear Inoculum was better”

I wish it was. This album actually sounds like the band are playing together, rather than cutting and pasting sections on top of each other in the most sterile fashion.

FI has the better songs, I can't argue against the facts, as much as I would like to

Fuck, that was super solid. Honestly could be among the better PT albums I've heard. Initial 4 with room to grow. 2022 is shaping up to be a juggernaut.

this hasn't clicked with me yet. it sounds too much like SW's solo stuff and not enough like PT. there are some good songs, but it does feel boring and phoned in, and the lyrics are terrible.

^This is my feeling so far.

Lol I think this is mostly true although the last like 4 and a half minutes of Descending are transcendent, the album as a whole felt very cut and paste.

Danny Carey is the only reason to listen to Tool on Fear Inoculum.

How did you guys ended up bashing fear inoculum again here?

Also, yeah, Steven Wilson is the worst part of this disc

Oddly enough, I never understood which one were the bonus tracks because on Spotify, where I listened the disc the most, they just are there and had no idea they were not on the disc lol. Last two are the best tracks here, Gavin is great in both.

Adam Jones is fucking brilliant on Fear Innoculum, the amount of hate the album gets here is ridiculous and borders on cringe

Adam Jones on FI has one of the few guitar performances in metal that I'd consider dull to the point of offensiveness

and re. other discourse, SW has always been the best and worst part of this band at once. He is schrodinger's porcupine puncture
