Claudio hasn't done cool/unpredictable vocals since Ascension and it's definitely hurt the quality of their songs. They've mostly been too straight forward and by the books.

gained a healthy amount of respect for this by reading Claudio's tbt on allmusic and he's straight up like "yeah i was high as shit recording Bad Man"

Band still just kinda sounds like your average poppy post hardcore band to me. When I was a teenager, I loved this band, but listening to this now, I just feel old.

hi guys!
so, doof doofs comment is actually very funny if you understand why. you see, the band name is 'Coheed and Cambria', but doof has called them 'Covid in Cumbria'. As you can see, this is actually not the bands name, although it is very similar. the humour in this situation comes from the fact doof has purposefully written the bands name incorrectly, yet similar enough so that we can recognise this is as being a reference to the bands actual name. a similar thing happens with celebrity actor superstar benedict cumberbatch (be sure to look up the funny memes about him guys!!!). anyways, well done doof, very humourous

I'm not sure I can even give this a go. I was...20 when YOTBR came out? So C&C have been disappointing me severely with new material for 12 years now. The Afterman duo had some bops that eased the pain but I've been cringing at uninspired, winded, tired melodies since then, and it sounds like this leaning so heavily into pop isn't going to satisfy my craving for early-2000s C&C occasionally-frenzied prog tinged with soothing pop choruses.

Nomos, I think Ascension was almost on par with In Keeping Secrets. Nothing will ever touch those first 3 records but I think this is their most solid release since 2012. You'll likely find something to like here, even if it's only the final 3 songs. Can't say I disagree with "uninspired, winded, tired melodies" as a whole though. Ever since Descension with Sentry the Defiant they've sounded like a band trying to be Coheed and Cambria.
Thankfully they're still one of the best live acts you can see and even the songs I don't like from them sound great live. I just wish Claudio would give us some Coheedian riffs and song structures again and do shit like making "overheard" into a 5 syllable word when singing melodies. And I've said it a billion times but losing the flowery metaphorical lyrics hurt the band a lot.

the entire world would fall back into harmony if Claudio would say baby like in Mother Superior again

hahahahaha Rowan, can't not hear that in my head
LaG that's good to hear, maybe I'll give it a shot, maybe I've been far too cynical in the past decade of C&C with expecting them to retain a specific sound. I am a sucker for Claudio's vocals and basically anything the guitars are doing as long as they're not woefully cheesy, which is a habit for them
