Floating Skulls is great, I love that 7/4 riff at the beginning. Where's the love for Nightmare Eyes now?

Been saying Floating Skulls is sick. That and Nightmare Eyes are my favorites on the record next to Blinded, Amaranthine, Blood Spiller and the t/t

I’m glad people are liking this a lot but it’s probably my second least favorite. Still good but it’s missing something

I think it's going to be a 3.5 for me. When it sounds like Cave In, it really shines, but when it doesn't, it's like a Kylesa-East of the Wall mashup that you would have expected back in 2012.
i used to love this proggy/sludgy stuff, but I've listened to too much of it.
Wavering Angel is a great closer, but doesn't anybody find the lyrics to be a bit cringy?

I really fuck with the grungy sounding stuff on here though, I have to say. And Brodsky does a better hetfield than hetfield does these days

Tbh Brodsky's lyrics have never been all that strong but his vocals more than make up for that. Think quite a few of these songs do suffer a little from "we need a chorus, lets just yell the song title over and over" syndrome tho

Also I do somewhat agree that the album is a bit bloated and could've prob had some tracks cut (mainly: the interludes, waiting for love)... but similar to Colors II last year, the production is so fucking strong that it just turns the entire album into ear candy which makes me not mind the length as much

Brodsky hasn't really ever been a great lyricist but he'd probably be the first to admit that, and there's a tongue-in-cheek cheese to a lot of it that is probably intentional. And it's really not uncommon for a song's chorus to just be the title, it's practically a trope in metal, punk and hardcore.

@Sowing I'd go through their discography in chronological order. Their musical evolution is pretty amazing.

Not that I really need a reason to binge Cave In, but this album has me jamming them exclusively over the past couple days. Such a sick band, and it's cool that they seem to have plenty more in the tank. Next album when?

I also binged their discography this week end.
I work as a high school teacher and I should have prepared a lession for tomorrow morning, but I'll just tell my students that Cave In dropped a new record.
