Ugh if this is uber-Prequelle I’m worried

The cheese is still there but I think used a bit more effectively. A lot of 80's influence too.

Yeah idk prequelle is kinda as poppy as I want my Ghost and these Bon Jovi comparisons have me worried

The beginning of Spillways is veeery similar to Bon Jovi's Runaway and has a similar vibe, but that's it. It still sounds like Ghost (at least Prequelle Ghost) thru and thru.

and as mentioned the intro song imperium is Metallica's Battery intro re-worked IMO

Not a bad thing. Hey Bon Jovi in the 80's were good, as long as they arent trying to sound like Bon Jovi from the 00's onward.

Really liking this album.

The interlude Dominion is at least inspired by Platoon's main theme.

Comments and review has me thinking I’m going to be disappointed here but I’ll check it today.

To me, Ghost peaked with Infestissium and have been downhill ever since…

Kaisarion, Spillways, Hunter's Moon, even Twenties sound fun, but much of the rest drags on waaaaay longer than it really should. Who the hell thought that repeating the chorus on Watcher and Griftwood for six straight minutes would be fun?

This sounds like a logical evolution of Prequelle and to me it's not a good thing at all. IMO most of Tobias' best songs were written with the old band, and with the new producers/co-writers they really started forcing the whole big glossy bombastic arena stuff with slick production and it doesn't feel natural. Still enjoying it to an extent, but post-Meliora stuff has been a slow but steady slide.

I loved the mythos, and eerie vibes of the early band. But I've also really enjoyed the evolution and growth of their sound. This is their most fun album to date, and delivered an interesting fusion of influences I didn't know I wanted. Kaisarion might be the best song they've ever made.

I can appreciate that people will dislike this album, having lost much of what drew people into their work to begin with. But I'm absolutely loving it. It's been on repeat for me start-to-finish since release.

(Twenties is pretty whack, but I love that they were experimenting).

'Twenties' kinda ruined this for me. I was expecting so much more saxophone in the vein of 'Miasma'; since everyone was hyping the 80s sound this record supposedly holds.

Need to give this a re-spin, if I remember correctly the first 3-4 tracks are good though

The first half is pretty much perfect. The singles have grown on me.

Watched an interview with Tobias yesterday, he said he wanted to release Kaisarion as the single, but the label went with Little Sunshine.

I'm not too thrilled with this but it does have some enjoyable moments. Same formula yielding the law of diminishing returns.

yeah the 80s worship was never the part of the band I enjoyed

Actually think "Twenties" is one of the better tracks here, at least it does something
