Very consistently enjoyable album this. Highs aren't super high for me, but except for Blight I can't really point to a sub-par song on this. Dopamine Void into Saturnine is the best part for me.

really would love if this band put out 6-8 track albums because there always seems to be just too much that I don't really care for that pulls down the overall album :/

Hey fellas! I've seen this band posted since not long after joining Sput and have read their name a thousand times over since....but I've never once listened. Saw that gnarly first LP cover art posted with the review in 2010 and since then that's been my only association with them.

Going to catch them in a little under a month with a buddy (the Edmonton date NoTrap listed above actually) but I have no idea what they sound like. The Zenith Passage was supposed to open but disappointingly they are just playing part of the tour then hopping off. 3 local openers it is!

Any suggestions for a track that really represents their sound?

Carrying on from a post I just saw on page 1: Eggplant has no nutrients? That sucks, it's my favorite vegetable lately. I make a LOT of Sichuanese eggplant variations. And Beijing-style eggplant. It tastes soooooooo good and I'm kicking myself for not getting into it earlier. Just like Allegaeon? We will see.

Also: go get yourselves some Chinese eggplant. 2 will do. Dice into long spears, and let sit in a bowl in the fridge coated in lots of salt for 30 min. Rinse the salt off. This removes excess moisture. Pat dry and coat with cornstarch evenly, which should now stick. Get a wide & deep pan full of peanut oil sizzling, then fry the spears in batches, strain of oil, and set aside on paper towel. That, as a baseline, is the start to any amazing number of fried eggplant dishes that are all FIRE.
My favorite is to fry some ground pork with fresh minced ginger & garlic. Toss in a tbsp of peanut oil & a pre-mixed sauce of Chinese black vinegar, soy sauce, some MSG, sugar, and a little chili oil. Then add a little water mixed with cornstarch and lower the heat & stir. The sauce will start to thicken. Toss in your pre-fried eggplant and mix until everything is coated.
Top with a drizzle of sesame oil and a powdering of fresh-ground sichuan peppercorn. Even better with some fresh chopped green onion whites / scallion / Chinese leek.

Can you tell I'm hungry and hyperactive?

Cost of groceries in Canada got me eating the same cheapish dishes over and over and over haha.

I make mapo tufo or just plain dressed tofu, cold or hot, with rice weekly. Mmmmm. God dang tofu is my favorite protein these days seriously.

tofu... well I hope your testosterone levels aren't impacted too severely. Probably should consider adding fried eggs into the mix

This album rules though. Definitely slept on it for a while

There's no risks associated with regular tofu consumption. Here's an article about it -- no correlation with hormonal imbalance: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19524224/

I eat some meat, but find there's a lot of misinformation about tofu/soy online and now unfortunately a bunch of people believed it and take it to heart.

As much as I love meat, it's a disgusting industry and I can't wait for it to die one day.

" there's a big # of meat eaters who are wildly insecure and defensive so they spread misinformation about tofu/soy online"

that's extremely anecdotal lol. And unfortunately you can point to an article that backs up nearly any point.

But it does seem like there's little reason to be cautious about consuming soy products. Though there are claims that suggest that eating soy can reduce your risk of some cancers. That seems misleading because it doesn't take into account what was being replaced by soy products. Processed meats contribute to greater cancer risk, so removing those from your diet can only help

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5793268/

As for meat, check out the Will Harris episode on JRE. He is a regenerative agriculture farmer and talks about how he runs his farm in the most ethical way possible, and talks about the history of farming for the last few generations. It's very interesting, but unfortunately doing what he does at scale is quite a challenge.

Damn this album's already been out for over a year. Really curious to see what their next release is like with Riley gone.

Riley is exceptional on vocals so I'm a bit dismayed now by Ezra's return lol

Saturnine is the best track here tho
