I find it so hard to rate Voivod albums

Then I drop a 4 and dip and everything's okay

I’m still sticking with my 4.5 😌 it’s astonishing that they’re still so good this late into their career

Keep returning to this, all the instruments are stellar on this one. The bass lines especially, how they interact with and complement the guitars is awesome. But drums and vox are on equal levels as well, it's not all about Chewy/Mongrain at all.

Good to know, was concerned I'd wear it out somewhat. There are some tasty hooks here.

it is still firmly in the queue

Can't believe this is getting a lower avg than all Voivod's best. Still thinking this is one of their best

this has worn off me a bit

i think if they let the tone remain more consistent in a given track and not veer into punky/dissonant chords sometimes it'd be stronger. the formula works for some tracks like planet eaters, title track, quest for nothing; but the stretch of tracks from mind clock to the world today feel like they trip over themselves by diverting from their more interesting parts to some very boring voivod self-parody

Nah, this really is good. I get the point of them copying themselves tho, this album wouldn't exist without Target Earth and The Wake and Post Society, it's like a perfected version of all those releases. And Holographic Thinking sounds really refreshing and innovative.

Thinking this is the best “twilight” or “post” Voivod album.

feel like the first three tunes are the same song from a few different angles

then Mind Clock hits and the album begins

"feel like the first three tunes are the same song from a few different angles

Might adjust this downwards to a 4. Holographic Thinking is where this really lifts off for me. Anyways, great album.

These guys could make the same song 10 times from different angles and I would still 5 em at this point. They are god tier musicians. Still thinking this and The Wake are unfairly good for their age. Like who tf release such good music so late in their career? And I'm not even talking about how relevant their lyrics are...
