Some growls are still there. I like em both tbh.

After just a few days of listening, I can comfortably say this is better than both Carbon-Based Anatomy and Kindly Bent to Free Us. I think if you don't really pay attention to which track you're listening to, you're not gonna get pissed off by the myriad interludes, personally I think they work fine here and idgaf that there's so many

The interludes help tie it all together. I love how conceptual and esoteric the album is - so easy to get lost in it.

The remix without the growls is so wrong agreed. I really hate it, even if the other instruments are supposed to be better it sounds kind of the same to the my plebian ears.

Man all of these guys brought their A game on this one, what a record. And yeah the synths rule

nah Cap, it probably ain't a 5. what it is is a triumphant return to form coupled together with a freshness provided by the new guys. this band has a super special place in my heart, and after the death of the 2 Seans I really didn't expect anything so this is still surprising me that it even exists

Good review, agree with everything you've said. I love atmosphere building and the general ethereal feel the album/Cynic has, but the interludes aren't really necessary to secure that IMO, regardless of your level of intoxication while listening.
On a side note, the point you make about Masvidal and Reinhart coming out is a good catch; it really wasn't that sensationalised at all, was it?
