The problem with ”Thumbs” is that for something so musically minimal, the lyrics and delivery aren’t that interesting either. The story is good and striking as it is, I think it just needed more to make it memorable and worth returning to.

I'm talking specifically about the you don't owe him shit part that is like made for some cinematic backdrop. The song overall is a little bit sparse and uninteresting for the most part

i like her lyrics more than the melodies or instrumentals. she had the same issue on historian but granted this album has a lot of improvements in those areas

Thumbs is the best song here, but to each their own
"the lyrics and delivery aren’t that interesting either" this is so wrong it hurts
The way she sings "I don't know how you keep smiling" kills me

Laura Stevenson is opening for Dacus which is kind of like Dark Tranquillity opening for TDWP (which happened btw)

Thumbs is incredible agreed. This is my favourite record from the boygenius crew I think.

I have this mental image of Phoebe bullying Lucy about how she isn't as good as her while Julien is a silent by-stander to it.

I read an interview where Lucy is talking about living with six roommates. I'm more interested in what that is about than any imaginary Boygenius drama. In my experience each additional roommate complicates life by a factor of 5.

eh, I've always had a bunch of roommates and it aint bad. Had 6+ the majority of college.

I installed locks on my room door when I had to be in those situations. It was a necessity because of the cost of rent in a yuppie college town.

Definitely feels good to grow up and shed roommates over time though. Finally shedding the last of them in August and just living with my gf.

I remember neek's anecdote about seeing Boygenius live and how Lucy was awkward and passive-aggressive about them being more popular than her. At the closing of her set she said "we're gonna play one more song then make way for the angels" lol

God that sounds sad lol
But i can understand it must be frustrating somehow for her too
They have been releasing better Music than her tho, but Dacus stepped her game up With this album
Edit: just read through the Boygenius thread where this was mentioned and it seems it wasnt an issue at other concerts so i hope it was just Lucy trying to be funny or something

That reads like polite (even humbling) self-deprecation to me. Lucy doesn't seem any less popular than the other two, especially stream-wise (she's killing it). She has a less cult-y following maybe, and less obvious industry support, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

'At the closing of her set she said "we're gonna play one more song then make way for the angels"'
Thats TOUGH.

Huge agreement on this one. This album is what has finally gotten me to listen to more than a single spin from her. Really digging it.

I remember when I saw Boygenius live and at the end of her set she got upset and said "All right, I know you're not here to see me, the two ANGELS are up next" and it read super weirdly and no one could tell whether she was joking or not cuz she just walked off stage
