Reverse UNO'd me with the electronic newcomer card! Which is fair. I just think I inherently find a perspective like "wow, I really vibe with this" over "this just sounds like *random cringe artist*" more valuable, because it's less dismissive and speaks to something engaging and gripping about the music, especially from someone who's knowledge on any given genre is shallower.
But if anything - I think that although this uses a palette from electronic and dance music, it's fundamentally a pop record in its arrangements. And maybe you've just gotta be somewhat of a poptivist to give it a proper critical pass.

Like, I don't think you're gonna convince an Autechre or Flying Lotus die-hard that "Wind Tempos" is an interesting experimental track, let alone trying to get them to find value in "Look at the Sky." You'll have a much easier time with the music critic crowd that's rediscovered value in really saccharine pop music in artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Dua Lipa, and The 1975 IMO.

Yeah that's a solid take and I agree it's accurate to view this through more of a pop lens. I've got no stylistic gripes with the electronic/dance/production choices here, but a strong no-vibe over the hackneyed atmosphere and melodic dullness, which correspond much more to pitfalls I'd associate with underwhelming pop (Dua and the 1975 most definitely) than with underwhelming electronic !
so it can live and die as a pop album ! which brings it into direct contact with luci's famously ropey as fuck taste in pop !
also i stg, if one more person copypastes 'life-affirming' into this thread

This whole album sounds like some A24 summertime indie movie montage shit where the protagonist finally conquers his fears, anxieties, and crippling addiction to drugs and bbw porn

"I've heard the first 7 or so songs like twenty times and the back half only two or three times."
Then you're missing out on the best two tracks Something Comforting and Mirror

the Sweet Time / Mirror -> Trying to Feel Alive run is the album’s best section imo. feel like Mirror is the album’s highlight and Trying to Feel Alive is one of the best closers I’ve heard in a minute

Yes, Mirror is the best thing here. Can't quite decide if Blossom is sweet or slightly shit or both though...
