Look, Heat Above may be a bit of a Zeppelin knock-off (Your Time Is Gonna Come?) but what can I say everytime I hear it playing somewhere it's such a mood lifter with its happy feel especially from the vocals. Think I'll bite the bullet and give this record a spin.
edit: okay Broken Bells is also surprisingly great but other than that I think listening to half the record is more than enough for now. The dudes still have a long way to go around their instruments imo, there's just little meat to hold on to amid the pomp.

Hilarious people calling these guys a rip off of Led Zeppelin like Zeppelin weren't the biggest rip off artists known to man
This band isn't even remotely deserving of half the hate they get. People's weird revulsion against nostalgia rock is so fucking weird. Led Zeppelin is gone and never making new music ever again, these guys sound very similar and are making music. Sounds like a fine fucking deal to me.

Whoa guys did you know that Led Zeppelin actually stole a bunch of their songs from other artists

I'm just saying, seems a bit hypocritical to shit on these guys for copying LZ, but rarely if ever criticizing LZ for ripping off other artists in the same fashion. I don't see anybody rating LZ albums 1's and 2's because they're just ripping off Cream.

The position LZ occupies in pop culture makes it harder to get away with overtly biting their style. Sorry but they have a really distinctive sound that everyone associates with them, and anyone who tries to replicate it without any changes is gonna get clocked right away in a way they wouldn't if they were copying someone less ubiquitous (like, say, cream was back when LZ was copying them).
Maybe that is unfair! Poor, maligned Greta Van Fleet, unable to make a career out of recycling proven formulas while also evading critical scrutiny, whatever shall they do. If only no cows were sacred, if only the playing field was level

You don't think the absolute ravaging they get is a little bit overblown? Like I'm not saying everybody should like their music, but do you think they deserve the shit they're getting?
|
| |
yea sure, since most people don't give a single shit about the online criticism anyway. it's not like their career is in danger because of it

Sure maybe it was a little bit overblown but idk in the grand pantheon of overblown fan community backlashes I just have a hard time thinking of these kids as uniquely or especially wronged

Excited for what they guys release next, some really great songs on this record. Screw whatever criticism comes their way, they are distancing themselves from their fan worship days and are making tunes that will be great for years to come.

I think their influences are still very clear, but I won't punish them for that when the music is enjoyable. This is still the best modern classic rock album I've heard in...uh, ever.
