@ledd: Powerviolence is a basically a genre that mixes elements of thrashcore and grindcore. There are also some math-y elements... The Locust is a good example of what the genre sounds like

I'd say better examples would be bands like Dropdead, Crossed Out, or No Comment. The Locust are pretty weird and don't play grind or pv straight at all with their quirky synths and what not.

would Plutocracy be classified as powerviolence?

They're more on the grind side of things than PV imo, but definitely strike me as a blend of the two. Which a band can totally do that too. Like Magrudergrind on their S/T.

whichever the genre, im starting to find myself more and more fond of raw, whirlwind-of-noise, (often old-school) punch-shit music
it grows on you, i suppose!

this album is heavy... but I don't know, it doesn't quite grip me
we'll see what happens when I come back to it later

pretty good!
doesn't fill a dillinger shaped hole but i feel desperate enough for this type of music to give this a proper gander right now.

Not entirely my thing but the sludge metal of Wounds Upon My Skin is rad.

Holy fuckin' shit - I haven't heard any mention of The Locust for years! Gonna stick some Solar Panel Asses and Wet Dream War Machine for old times' sake.
BTW this album is alright so far - some songs stick, but others just have too much chaos going on...which after a while turns into monotony. Probably heading towards a 2.5.
