I def really like this one, on relisten "Don't Know Yet" and "Bag of Bones" aren't working for me too much (still solid songs), still not sold on the closer yet
Maybe their weakest album so far?

Same feeling here neek. I enjoy it but it's their worst imo.

Lol music is so wonderfully subjective.

Bag of Bones might sneak down to a 2.5. Haven’t skipped it yet, but I’m sure I will soon.

Straw Man could have been a 5/5 track but it's still quite beautiful. To me that's the easy standout. The rest are subject to a wide range of opinions.

Don't understand your love for chameleons compared to the others but technically our ratings for it are the same lol
Yeah it's prob their weakest but I'm still gonna end up 4'ing it probably

Sowing surprised Neon Wound is so low for you!

It's just kind of a boring song, especially for an opener. Nothing terribly wrong with it but I can't find a single reason to revisit it either, aside from the fact that I have no choice because it opens the album lol.

Neon Wound is great idk what negativity juice you been drinkin lately sowing :/

Sowing, I have the same top 4 (different order) and bottom 2. Idk what everyone's problem with Simpatico is. that one's definitely solid/my number 5. Neon Wound has been growing on me though. it's such a "good" track and nothing more. it was begging for some sort of last minute climax that we didn't get.
I like the bridge in Bag of Bones quite a bit but the rest is a bit of a slog.
I'm feeling a decent 3.5 for this atm. the first time these guys have disappointed me :'(

Aside from generally trying to be less hyperbolic I don't think I'm being too negative. I was genuinely conflicted over this album for days but it quickly became clear that this is not as good as anything else the band has done... ever, really. With that said it's still good which is a testament to these guys.
I don't really have an issue with Simpatico, maybe just the same as with Neon Wound. It doesn't go anywhere.

5-6 spins into this thing and 'don't know yet' is prob me fave song other than the inexplicable use of programmed hi-hats and clickety-clacks in the verses
god that stuff shits me
like parts of freakazoid a lot but the 'i believe...' part sucks
straw man very good but also wasted potential etc
frustrating album

Jammed Carnavas and Swoon alongside this yesterday. Here's what I learned:
-I still like this a lot, even in comparison to those two gems
-I have to rethink my 5 for Carnavas because Swoon might be the better album
Gonna listen to Neck of the Woods and Better Nature today.

Awesome. Always love seeing people go through this band's entire discog for perspective. Carnavas is great but maybe a taad (a small tad) overrated. Swoon is amazing. Neck of the Woods is their pinnacle. Better Nature sacrifices some of the instrumental integrity but goes down smooth and is super catchy. This album has some of their best ideas but just can't put them together in a dynamic fashion that works.
Also check Pikul if you haven't. Kind of raw but has some of their best songs.

I'm excited to listen to Neck of the Woods today. I remember I felt a bit let down when it was first released, and then it grew on me massively. Maybe I'll love it even more now!
After the full-lengths, I'll revisit Pikul and the Seasick EP (I think these were B sides from Swoon).

Also, the Singles Collection is a cash grab but a lovely greatest hits record.
