what a gorgeous review, i love it when u get effusive bb. "This is why a soundtrack to the world falling apart can still plaster a dumb smile on my face" is the kind of sentence/encapsulation i would kill to write right.
another thing i like is that when you bring in other albums as touchstones you manage to do it in a way that describes what the touchstone sounds like, so even if I haven't heard either albums i know both where you're getting at and what to expect. it's something only a reviewer of high calibre can pull off without sounding smarmy and namedroppy but instead informative and knowledgeable. it rules.
album hasn't quite brought me nearer my god but i like it a lot ( :

This album actually made me think of Daisy right away: band dives headfirst into huge stylistic change up without compromise to mirror the chaos and futility of their modern existence

Except Daisy is a 5/5 and this is far from it

Yeah true hey Brushed what do you think of this album

I wasn't even commenting on the quality lol, just the overall aura of each

Grand Paradise is alright solely because of last half. Slapstick is BoH, Lich Prince should’ve never been made, Gameshark ditto to prior, Nearer My God Slapstick but better, Five Cups alright but too long; doesn’t warrant length, Heartbeats to Crown Candy same as Lich Prince, last two are decent. Won’t Drown gets kind annoying before it’s over.

Heartbeats really had to grow on me, I hated it at first tbh. Crown Candy is very easily the weakest track here and even that's like a 4 for me now

Heartbeats and Crown Candy are fighting Gameshark for worst songs of the decade. Like The Light Is Coming by Ariana Grande held that pretty easily til those dropped. Awful.
|
| |
Gameshark is goofy and over the top but a bad song can't have bass that godly
Like FFDP and the new Nicki Minaj exist lmao

I'm on the verge of being astonished at all these really high ratings

Gameshark was the moment that I said okay it’s a 0.5/5 song but I’ll let it slide if the rest is as good as the first two singles and unfortunately none of the first two singles existed here outside of them.
To me, this is Foxing’s Everything Now except I knew EN didn’t stand a chance cuz the singles sucked. The singles here gave me hope til Gameshark and it went to hell from there, which is why it’s so tragic and why I’m so disappointed.

Man, Gameshark grooves for days. Top 5 on here for me. That last chorus is just too cool. Speaking of Heartbeats I haven't seen many mention the production on this thing. Some of the best I've heard all year. Actually, may as well post my early top five: Lambert > Grand Paradise > Nearer My God > Gameshark > Bastardizer.

Grand Paradise, Lich Prince, Lambert, Heartbeats, and Gameshark (which reminds me a lot of a Portugal. the Man song) are mine prob
Bastardizer is like a Smidley track tho and I love it, Nearer My God has grown on me a ton, and Won't Drown is rly infectious

Trapped in Dillard's reminds me a lot of "33 God" from that last Bon Iver album.

I could totally see that yeah
