y'all are crazy, wedding march and michael are badass

and the reason i found protest awkward as opposed to andromeda is the melodies sometimes didn't seem to flow, and the synths/atmosphere also felt cheesy (especially the second track). a great album, however not among my favorite sprout.

Sometimes the way it moves looks plain berserk

seriously?

I'd say stuff like Broadcast, Stereolab and Pram could fall under the umbrella

It's not exactly pop music per se but it experiments with what it does, although it goes much more in a European direction and takes more from 60s/70s krautrock/easy listening/psych, etc. and turns it upside its head into something entirely different, whether it's watered-down or not as a result

Honestly, I didn't even know city pop was a thing until the whole Youtube recommendations thing blew up. Like I've gotten some cool albums out of it, but nothing really astonishing barring one or two albums and a few singles. I still don't get the hype over the shit that you hear in every watered down vaporwave tune, just incredibly bastardized. I dig "Plastic Love" but the album itself is relatively lightweight 80s pop with a few nice songs.

To the whole Broadcast/Pram v. Stereolab, I still need to listen to Broadcast since I have one of their records on my computer plus I've known about them ever since Trish died (it's almost been seven years fuck).

Aside from the really big names who have clout in electronic music (see: Yellow Magic Orchestra's members solo stuff, who all did very different and diverse stuff within and outside city pop) Aside from that, I can't exactly recommend much outside a few singles. It's all a bunch of decent, but disposable stuff weebs eat up to look cultured tbh

Personally never cared for vaporwave outside a few artists but like Miles D., it's not a regular thing for me

I could probably count the notable "city pop" artists on one hand, really

However, some good (and obscure, mind you) electronic, minimal and folk music has resurfaced as well so it's not entirely a bad thing that city pop's had a resurgence on the internet.

there's one artist that was making the rounds on the Youtube recs algorithm over the summer and one of her songs was stellar...checked the album it's from and it's pretty mediocre. Fucking bummed me out, or I wasn't in the mood for pseudo-folk disguised as second-rate flamenco jazz shit.

Oh, this is it. Love the art on her albums, but this one in particular was the one I went for.

As for the person who did "Plastic Love", this is it. Was considering doing a short review for it, but I really only fuck with "Plastic Love" at this point. Way too top-heavy as well, although she's probably one of the more successful artists from the subgenre.

However, these two are incredible records that got the reissue treatment over the past two years to some acclaim (and p4k reviews, somehow)

I ought to give the two I listened to another chance, but that one song in question ("Taiji no Yume") was incredibly misleading.

very ~flamenco~ influenced and it left me with some very mixed feelings

although considering it was the last song on the album, as much as i liked it, it wasn't worth the 45 minute wait

Made the first step and replaced the art for the three main albums. Pixellated ain't gonna cut it.

I miss when the art would change asap, now you gotta clear your cache so it'll change instantly. I'd assume it takes longer in real time however.
