she can't sustain a note to save her life. her voice is all over the place and her highs are oftentimes flat or strained so bad they're like nails on a chalkboard. just bloody awful. idk how anyone can get into it

literally no idea whatcha talkin bout. just sounds like fuckin normal vocals to me. also the song "anna" is like all sustained notes (incl. highs) literally wtf are you talking about

also strained highs are pretty standard fare esp. if you listen to punk-influenced music (imo they sound great cuz they're like emooooootional yo). easy example of awesome singer who strains their voice to a painful-sounding degree all the time: frances quinlan.

her vocals are grating and fluctuate constantly. it's completely out of tune and fucking awful. maybe you're deaf?

these vocals arent anywhere near noticeably out of tune. maybe you've got perfect pitch? also uhhhh singers fluctuate notes all the time; pretty normal technique to add variety to a melodic line of straight tones.

i should have specified: fluctuate in this context is a bad thing, since they're so horribly out of tune and thus grating. sometimes vocals can be weird and out of tune but still interesting and artistic. but this is a joke

my background is primarily in punk music so im pretty ok with out of tune vocals; in fact, i think theres often artistic merit to it, with camp cope being one such case. gmaq's vocals are only ever very slightly off; shes never anywhere near like a semitone away from the perfect pitch for me, but more to the point, i dont think her vocals are any more out of tune than any vocalist on any rougher punk record: jeff on the first three btmi records, tim kinsella in capn jazz, blake on the older jawbreaker records; the list is endless. for me, as long as the singer is only very slightly off, the melody is basically completely intact, and you get the added bonus of raw-sounding takes and little pockets of tension throughout the melody rather than like three minutes of endless perfect consonance. imo those bonus characteristics are perfectly in line with the emotional content of gmaq's songs: raw execution to match the candid, unfiltered emotions that gmaq puts into these songs. furthermore, gmaq's vocals are nothing out of the ordinary if you've heard a lotta punk music.

lol as if people are shitting on her voice, it's probably half the reason they're as popular as they are. I actually prefer her when it's just her and an acoustic guitar over a full band

Thought it might Freddie, I don't think there's a huge drop in quality from the first record
