GKMC was definitely far more relatable, as a Bildungsroman. and I'd agree that only listening to universally relatable music isn't necessarily a marker of undeveloped musical taste

I'm glad people like this, but I can't see this as more than a few good songs and truckload of ambition that misses the mark terribly.

@dbizzles How do you see this album as 'missing the mark?' I find it presents all of its themes in a very effective and concise manner and also ties them all together so well towards the end of Mortal Man

I feel like it is all tied together well and fits the theme he wanted, but I think overall the quality of the songs individually are lacking.

To me a lot of it feels like a ton of busy noise covered in notebook scribbled lyrics- just wasn't for me.

There are a few reeeeeally slick tracks on here but the album is bogged down a lot, in my opinion, by too much stuff going on at once- most notably in the first half of the album.

I'm definitely going to listen to it more, but after a couple listens, I don't even see this as an average release.

"a ton of busy noise covered in notebook scribbled lyrics" totally feel you, exactly why I can't dig him, he relies on gibberish lyrics to fit his rhyme pattern and flow WAY to often, basically every song. hes more concerned with making songs about superficial topics that sound great, than making songs about complex topics that sound worse.

Kendrick fanboys are shockingly becoming far worse than Stans, we need to think of a name for them.

At least his previous two albums I could just put on whenever and enjoy it.

That is not the case with this one at all.

Maybe me saying he 'misses the mark' is incorrect, because I think K Dot made the exact album he set out to- I just don't think it is good.

I think you guys need to just sit down and re-listen to this. Best hip-hop record in like 15 years.

Well, basically no competition. It's just that great. Or most other hip-hop in the last 15 years has been garbage. Not 100% sure yet.

Dude, Yeezus was one of the most grating experiences I've ever had sitting through an album. So yes, this is pretty close to Yeezus.

Alright, then Trix. If you think this is the best hip hop album of the last fifteen years I must assume you've heard at least one a year. How about a top ten?
