s/a doesnt have the same fun experiments as this but its a masterclass in pop songwriting. you even get some proto-power pop

"some amazing motown songs lovingly covered by a man deeply influenced by 60s soul, whats not to love??"
They're boring? Most of the 60s soul I can get down to hard is deff the southern style (stuff like Otis, Wilson, and Aretha.) Even when I enjoy the more northern Motown/Philly stuff, it's in short bursts of 1 song at a time, maybe 2? No interest in a 10-min melody of someone covering them...especially when ¾ of the songs are extra slow ballads. Deff the album's lowlight

I feel like “couldn’t I just tell you?” just /is/ power pop

Night the Carousel Burned Down reminds me of Sitting by the Riverside by The Kinks with its brand of disorientation
