though being serious, i've noticed in this thread and the taylor swift thread sputnik is riding some kind of weird counter-
counter culture mentality, where if you strongly dislike the mainstream pop album du jour then you're lumped
immediately as some kind of "le wrong generation" stereotype, when i think there's plenty of legitimate reasons to think
this album is just really homogenous and artifical.
idk it's some kind of weird meta layer of elitism, where you're "rising above" the immature hipsters who've "risen above"
the sheeple masses.

Ehh, while I don't cate for Taylor Swift or 1D, I do enjoy a few pop acts here and there(most recent
would probably be OneRepublic). You gotta understand though that there are a lotta hipsters in this
site, so obviously there is going to be at least some bias towards mainstream pop-music

Can't we all just be honest with the music we like? : (

And hell yeah the Beatles were a boy-band, it was the fuckin' British Invasion! Every band that
crossed the ocean to earn a spot on the Ed Sullivan Show was essentially a boy band att

I don't like when music is used merely as filler. Nearly everything on traditional FM radio here fits that
bill.
I don't devote time to hating pop. Most of the time I don't even know songs that are really popular until
months or years after they've hit that mark. As someone who enjoys the weirder side of sonic entertainment,
I flock to more extreme forms of the art; forms that are not acknowledged in mainstream media. Therefore,
my dismissal of pop music is unintentional due to lack of care and the fact that I'm too busy immersing
myself in music that I know I'll be far more inclined to enjoy.

I see boy bands as a more of a manufactured singing and dancing choreography based group
that doesn't write their own music and tries to only appeal to young girls.

"I see boy bands as a more of manufactured singing and dancing choreography based group that doesn't write their own music and tries to only appeal to young girls. "
in a way this is accurate, but it's a very narrow way to look at it. I'd more say boy bands are any mainstream band that has all members looking young and relatively attractive enough to the point that their faces could be used as marketing tools to young girls, regardless of who writes their songs

The same way Aerosmith has been an old lady band for the majority of their career.

But the Beatles were just a REALLY popular rock band who appealed to everyone.
The Beatles influenced boy bands in the same way The Velvet Underground influenced punk, but the Velvet Underground aren't punk, just an influence.

"The same way Aerosmith has been an old lady band for the majority of their career."
Agreed. One that Permanent Vacation album came out it was pretty evident.
